I created this illustration as I was first teaching myself how to draw on the computer and figuring out how to translate traditional techniques into the digital world. For this piece, I started with a pencil drawing of a tiny girl in a terrarium and took a picture of it. I then colored it with watercolors, that being my most familiar media. Once I had finished the watercolor painting, I moved to the computer to try to color it similarly in Photoshop, trying to achieve different textures.
In the end, I still preferred the traditional watercolor painting over the digital painting, but it was an insightful experience, helping me understand new digital coloring techniques and better ways to simulate the character of traditional drawing media.
