This piece is a simple still life that was put together in my painting class. I started with a grisaille before moving into color. The composition I chose isolated the cool colors of the display and focuses on the peppers placed in the upper-right third.
I painted the cabin my family built and grandparents lived in while my grandma was in the hospital and finished it a week after she passed away. This painting serves as a reminder of the life she and my grandpa put into the house and the summers that I spent there with all my grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins. It’s a cabin in the middle of nowhere, but it was always warm and welcoming and a home away from home.
The goal of this portrait was to create a self portrait in the style of another artists painting. I chose to do a version of Pablo Picasso’s Boy with a Pipe. I kept the pose and expression the same, but showed myself holding a paintbrush and wearing my paint shirt.
