My cousin wrote a book and asked me to design a cover for it. She sent me a variety of reference images of what she wanted for the cover illustration that included stormy dark skies, transparencies, and dancing. Since dancing was a metaphor used throughout the book, there had to be someone dancing on the cover. And the tagline was about navigating a relationship with an invisible God, so that also played a role in the decisions. I used a stock image of a couple dancing and a picture I took in North Dakota and edited them heavily to create a see-through Jesus.
After a year, I revisited the cover design and redid the typography to better fit the message and tone of the book.
I also formatted the inside of the book for her, creating a visual hierarchy for the different aspects of her writing.
